Growing tensions

The Pulwama attack has raised communal tensions across the region

HYDERABAD: In the past few days two deadly incidents occurred in India-occupied Kashmir and Iran. The attack in IOK’s Pulwama district left 44 CRPF personnel dead and the one in Iran’s Sistan-Baluchistan province claimed the lives of 27 IRGC soldiers. This led to the summoning of Pakistani ambassadors in the two countries for recording of protest.

For a long long time, India has been leaving no stone unturned to isolate Pakistan in the world. However, it has terribly failed in its nefarious designs so far. On Saturday, Indian Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj stopped over in Tehran and tried to cash in on Iranian grievance over the Sistan attack while travelling to Bulgaria.

The Pulwama attack has raised communal tensions across the region. The Indian prime minister warned Pakistan over the attack and said it would have to pay a heavy price for it. Moreover, in northern states of India, the lives and properties of the Kashmiri people are under threat, with Hindutva stalwarts warning them to move to occupied Jammu and Kashmir.

Quite obviously, Iran is unhappy too. Earlier, Pakistan had successfully helped return Iranian guards who had been abducted by Jaish al-Adl from the Pak-Iran border territory. Pakistan needs to take Iran into confidence. Militancy is a serious threat to both Pakistan and Iran, and they should coordinate with each other to get rid of the menace.
