Child pornography

Parents should also exercise control over social media accounts of their children.

LAHORE: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has recently found the presence of a business of child pornography in Pakistan. It is unfortunate that even after the Kasur scandal that resulted in a countrywide debate on child abuse, the FIA and the government apparatus have been unable to curb the menace.

According to the FIA cybercrime chief, “Child pornography is a business and investigations into the complains we have received from abroad as well as locally have revealed that those involved in the crime are linked to international child pornography rings.”

While it is the responsibility of the authorities concerned to arrest the culprits and ensure an end to child pornography in the country, parents also should take up the responsibility of making their children aware about different types of abuse in order to protect them from falling victim to it.

The FIA cybercrime chief also stressed that there is a need to create “awareness among parents and children” as “suspects portray to be women and children on social media and lure them.” Parents should also exercise control over social media accounts of their children.
