LAHORE: A man impersonating as a police officer deprived Raiwind police and the local shopkeepers of their money on Friday.

An unidentified man, claiming to be ASP Toba Tek Singh, called the Raiwind police station and asked for the data of the money transfer shops in the area.

The SHO did not even care to contact the higher officials nor took any steps to confirm the identity of the call from the impersonating ASP. Instead, he sent police officials to gather the names and cell phone numbers of the shopkeepers and then handed the data over to the fake ASP.

After some time, the shopkeepers received calls from different numbers asking them to send Rs40,000 to Rs50,000 on the respective phone numbers. Many of those who were perturbed lost their cash. The shopkeepers who did not send the money were harassed.

When the matter came to the notice of SP Saddar division Syed Ali, he realised that a fraud has been committed with both the police and the citizens.
