Appearing before a two-member bench comprising Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar and Justice Agha Faisal, the petitioner’s counsel argued that the government had issued a notice regarding the security measures and arrangements in school vans on May 7 2014. However, no action was being taken despite repeated notifications issued in this regard.
The court summoned the Director of Hydrocarbon Development Institute of Pakistan (HDIP) which is responsible to issue safety certificates to the vehicles. Court remarked that it should be mentioned that what is the mechanism of issuing the safety certificates.
Justice Mazhar remarked that the matter of children’s lives is a sensitive issue therefore it cannot be ignored.
