ISLAMABAD: The Ministry of Defence has given an in-camera briefing to the Senate Standing Committee on Defence over the tense situation along the Line of Control (LoC).

The standing committee met at Parliament House with Senator Azam Swati in the chair.

The meeting was attended by Defence Minister Pervez Khattak, Gen (retd) Abdul Qayyum, Sherry Rehman, Rehman Malik, Anwarul Haq Kakar, Mushahid Hussain Syed, Chaudhry Tanveer and others.

The agenda of the session had three points, but the committee deferred that to discuss the tension along the LoC.

At the end of the session, Swati directed the officials of the defence ministry to prepare their recommendations regarding the development budget and present them before the committee for review.

Senator Sherry Rehman said important developments were taking place in Afghanistan and called for a briefing.

“Many questions regarding Afghanistan are being raised, while the Ministry of Foreign Affairs does not brief us,” said Senator Rehman, demanding a briefing from the defence ministry.

In reply, the officials of the defence ministry stated that only the Ministry of Foreign Affairs could brief the committee on the Afghanistan talks.

The committee decided to discuss Afghanistan's current situation in detail during its next meeting.

The committee also deferred till the next meeting an issue raised by Senator Dr Jehanzeb Jamaldini regarding the restoration of four employees of Survey of Pakistan.
