Still reeling high on the success of her latest film Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi, Kangana Ranaut is set to direct her own biopic, reported The Indian Express.

The renowned actor – and now, director – herself confirmed the news in a recent statement.

“Yes, it is true. My own story is the subject of my next directorial. But it is not a propaganda film with characters that are starkly black and white; rather it is a sincere, heartfelt account of my journey so far with plenty of lighter moments,” she said. “I am emboldened by the love of the people around me, who have never judged me but accepted me for who I am.”

According to sources, the biopic will be written by Baahubali fame KV Vijayendra who also wrote Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi. Ranaut added, “Around 12 weeks ago, he (KV Vijayendra) urged me to let him write a film based on my life. I was nervous and wary initially, but then, given his stature and the fact that I trust him implicitly, I gave Vijayendra sir the go-ahead to the project.”

Bollywood has called for trouble by ganging up against me: Kangana Ranaut

Ranaut made her Bollywood debut with the 2006 drama Gangster, which fetched her several awards for being the best debutante that year. She followed it up with remarkable films like Life in a… Metro, Fashion, Tanu Weds Manu and Queen, winning three National Awards too.

The 31-year-old’s life has, however, been embroiled in several controversies over the past few years. From her alleged relationship and very-public fallout with fellow actor Hrithik Roshan to her fiery appearance on Koffee with Karan, where she ignited the nepotism debate in Bollywood, Ranaut has survived it all.

Of course, the starlet’s biopic will also include people who have rubbed her the wrong way.

The actor added, “How can I show my journey without these people? I can’t be walking alone. But we will not be taking any names. The idea is to project me and my life with all its highs and lows. In the end, it is the story of an achiever, a girl from the mountains who came into Bollywood without any connections in the industry or even a godfather, and went on to carve a niche for herself against all odds.”

Despite Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi courting controversy, the Rani Lakshmibai biopic did quite well at the box office. Up next, Ranaut is gearing up for Ekta Kapoor’s Mental Hai Kya and Fox Star Studio’s Panga in the coming year.
