Around 1,443 shopkeepers were allotted alternative shops at an event, attended by Karachi Mayor Waseem Akhtar, Commissioner Iftikhar Shallwani, Metropolitan Commissioner Dr Syed Saifur Rehman, District South Deputy Commissioner Sallahud Din, trader leaders Jameel Ahmed Pracha and Ateeq Mir.

The affected meat and vegetable vendors of Empress Market were allotted alternative shops at Ranchor Lene Market, Umar Farooq Market's shopkeepers in Khadda Market, Shopping Centre shopkeepers in Shahabuddin PIDC Market, Khori Garden Mairaj Market's shopkeepers in Furniture Market, Jinnah Market Shopkeepers in Soldier Bazar Market, Baloch Park shopkeepers in Nazimabad no. 2, while several others were shifted to Frere Market.
Speaking on the occasion, Mayor Akhter said that he had fulfilled his promise regarding the allotment of alternative shops to the affected shopkeepers. The lucky draw was adopted to make the process transparent.
