National Women’s Day

Letter February 14, 2019
I request the Government of Pakistan to take serious steps for female education in the province

BALL NIGWAR, KECH: It is known that women play a vital role in the development of society and the nation. Women are the builder of a nation. However, there contribution can be hampered if they are not educated and well-equipped with the skills required. Yet the literacy rate for females continues to paint a darker picture of the future.

Unfortunately, the literacy rate for females in rural areas is just 2%. Women from rural areas continue to face hurdles of under-age marriages, cultural and social taboos and in few cases are allowed to pursue their education and career.

Currently, Balochistan has just 3,408 girls schools, 22 girls inter-colleges,13 girls degree colleges and 16,693 female teachers. The province has the lowest literacy across the country.

I request the Government of Pakistan to take serious steps for female education in the province. On the occasion of National Women’s Day, we must pledge to support our women with their careers and their meaningful contribution towards society.
