CHAMAN: Local tribesmen on Friday briefly blocked a crossing on the Pakistan-Afghanistan highway to protest firing from Afghan forces near Chaman. North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO) supplies and other traffic was suspended as a result of the blockade.

Earlier on Thursday, six people had been injured in an alleged firing incident on the border.

Frontier Corps (FC) commandant Brigadier Abdul Rasheed reached the blockade point and assured the tribal leaders that the issue would be brought up with Nato officials in the next flag meeting. The tribesmen opened the highway after the meeting.

The tribesmen had blocked the border highway at Bab Dosti, demanding that the Afghan government arrest those involved in the incident, and also demanded that the displacement of shopkeepers and traders from their shops and lands be stopped.
