Appeal to CM: Traders oppose demolition of buildings

The government should have held the government officials accountable who approved those constructions, says Shaikhani

HYDERABAD: The Hyderabad Chamber of Small Trade and Industry has welcomed Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah’s rejection of Sindh Building Control Authority’s summary for demolition of buildings constructed on plots converted from residential to commercial.

The chamber’s president Muhammad Farooq Shaikhani said in a statement on Wednesday that the buildings were constructed after obtaining approvals from all the relevant government departments. He said that instead of recommending the demolition, the government should have held the government officials accountable who approved those constructions. “Although we can understand the ban on future conversion of residential plots, the buildings which have already been constructed after fulfilling the due processes shouldn’t be razed,” he demanded.



He argued that the people who live in such buildings or own shops have legal entitlement to those properties. On behalf of the business community, he appealed the chief minister to present these facts in the Supreme Court.
