QUETTA: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has rejected Balohcistan Chief Minister Jam Kamal’s plea and decided to hold the local government elections in the province under the previous law.

Drought emergency ‘to delay LG elections’

“Balochistan government has not done any new legislation to amend the Local Government Act. The ECP has therefore decided to uphold the previous act and the next LG polls would be held under the previous laws, “said ECP Secretary Babar Yaqoob Fateh Muhammad on Wednesday.

CM Kamal had filed an application with the ECP, requesting it to hold the coming elections under new legislation. The ECP official said delimitation of new union councils (UCs) and wards had started on January 31 and the process would continue till February 15. “The new delimitation will be announced on March 30,” he said.
