De Kock’s quick-fire 83 leads South Africa to ODI series win against Pakistan

Proteas register seven-wicket win in the fifth match in Cape Town on Wednesday

Quinton de Kock’s brilliant knock was enough for South Africa to clinch a series win in the 50-over format against Pakistan after winning the fifth and final ODI by seven-wicket margin in Cape Town on Wednesday.

The day started with the home side captain Faf du Plessis winning the toss and opting to field first.

His decision proved a correct one as the visitors only managed to post 240 for the loss of eight wickets in their allotted 50 overs.

Opener Fakhar Zaman finished the innings with the top score of 70 off 73 balls with the help of 10 fours, whereas all-rounder Imad Wasim scored a brisk 47 not out off just 31 balls during the later stages of the innings.

For South Africa, pacers Andile Phehlukwayo and Dwaine Pretorius were the pick of the bowlers as they claimed two wickets each.

In reply, Proteas reached the target in just 40 overs at the expense of three wickets, courtesy breathtaking 83 off just 58 balls with the help of 11 fours and three sixes from De Kock, who pretty much single-handedly sealed the deal for home side.

For Pakistan, pacers Mohammad Amir, Usman Khan Shinwari and Shaheen Shah Afridi claimed a wicket each.

For his outstanding batting performance, De Kock was named player of the match.
