KARACHI: Jinnah Medical & Dental College (JMDC) awarded 307 degrees to the MBBS graduates of 2017-18 (189), BDS graduates of 2017-18 (86) and Doctor of Pharmacy graduates of 2016-17 (32).

The convocation ceremony was held on January 26 at Global Marquees, Korangi Road. Medical education at JMDC aims at producing highly skilled graduates as doctors, dentists, and pharmacists equipped with academic leadership qualities provided under the supervision of highly qualified and dedicated faculty members.

S. M. Sohail Trust Chairman Dr Syed Tariq Sohail highlighted the importance of ethical practices in the medical profession.

The chief guest, IA Rehman, in his keynote address, stressed the importance of cultural diversity and tolerance in healthcare.

SIUT confers degrees on over 300 students


University of Karachi Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Muhammad Ajmal Khan spoke about the expectations of the community from doctors and the role of JMDC in producing a good doctor.

Position holders

The students who received the academic achievement award for holding positions for their overall academic record were Mohammed Abdur Rehman Munawar from MBBS class of 2017, Bilawal Mubarak from MBBS class of 2018, Mariam Abdul Ghafoor from BDS class of 2017, Sufia Shafi from BDS class of 2018 and Hira Moin Ghausi from PharmD class of 2016.

Besides, 184 graduates scored distinctions in the MBBS class of 2017, 406 in MBBS class of 2018, 145 in BDS class of 2017, and 147 in BDS class of 2018. Whereas, 15 distinctions in PharmD were awarded to students who earned 90% or higher marks in a subject.

The total number of distinctions earned by all graduates was 897.
