ISLAMABAD: A man has been fined Rs100,000 and demoted for 'physically' harassing his female colleague at a private company in Islamabad.

The order was given by Federal Ombudsperson for Protection against Harassment of Women at the Workplaces Kashmala Tariq after receiving a complaint from the victim.

A 15-day period has been given to the private firm to implement the order.

Nadeem Ahmed, who had called the complainant for a private meeting, told her to stay back to discuss a pressing matter.

After discussing professional matters for 30 minutes, he came to the victim's side of the table and touched her cheeks.

He also told her if she ever needed any personal favour she could reach out to him.

She was shocked and and left the room. The next day she wanted to share what happened with organisation's operations coordinator, but he was not in the country at the time.

Later, in the complaint to the ombudsperson, the victim said she did not share the details with the organisation's country director as she thought Ahmed was close to him.

Ahmed would also send inappropriate text messages to her, asking if she was alone at home.
