ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court referred on Wednesday the issue of election on NA-41 Wana (Tribal Areas-VI) in South Waziristan to the Election Commission of Pakistan. A three-judge bench had taken up the case.

Ghalib Khan, a candidate, who lost the polls, in South Waziristan, challenged the election results in which Maulana Abdul Maalik Wazir was declared as the winner. The petitioner had contended that as a result of recounting in certain polling stations, he had won the election but Maulana Maalik had filed a petition in the Islamabad High Court in 2008 which passed a verdict in his favour. The Islamabad High Court had declared Maulana Abdul Malik as elected from NA-41 Wana in the general elections and set aside the decision of the chief election commissioner.
