Campus security across Sindh

University campuses need foolproof security arrangement before an unexpected situation arise

THARPARKAR: Jamshoro has three prominent universities of Sindh province — Mehran University of Engineering and Technology, Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences and the University of Sindh. However, the state of security there is unsatisfactory.

More than 50,000 students are enrolled in the three universities apart from a big number of staff members, but no specific security measures have been adopted on the campuses. A lot of criminal activities are going on in and around the campuses, with students and staff members under an obvious threat.

The recent suicide of a student of Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences is pertinent to mention here. No proper security check for visitors can be seen on campuses. On-duty security personnel are unable to perform their duties properly.

Among female students, harassment by male students and teachers has induced a sense of discomfort and insecurity. Moreover, frequent movement of outsiders across the campuses is another factor that can possibly lead to unpleasant situations at these universities.

The university campuses need foolproof security arrangement before an unexpected situation arises. It is hoped that the authorities concerned will do the needful and pay attention to the matter.
