Kashmiris on both sides of the Line of Control (LoC) and across the world are observing the day as a black day to protest against India's continued brutality and denial of the right to self-determination to Kashmiris, Radio Pakistan reported.

Call for the protest had been given by the Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL). The JRL, in a statement issued in Srinagar, maintained that India has no justification to observe Republic Day in the occupied valley as it has illegally occupied the territory against the wishes of the Kashmiri people.

The Indian authorities have deployed police personnel and troops in Srinagar and other towns in IoK to prevent people from staging anti-India demonstrations.
Hurriyat leaders have also been arrested.
Islamabad has repeatedly urged New Delhi to respect the 2003 ceasefire arrangement, investigate the incidents of ceasefire violations, instruct Indian forces to respect the agreement in letter and spirit and maintain peace along the Line of Control. However, the violation of the truce has been continuing.
Earlier in 2018, the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights issued a report revealing “impunity for human rights violations and lack of access to justice” to be among human rights challenges in the occupied valley.
