PM calls parliamentary party meeting over Sahiwal tragedy

Premier understands that government’s viewpoint and narrative on the incident is not being conveyed to the people

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan has called a meeting of parliamentary party to brief the participants about government’s stance on Sahiwal incident at the prime minister’s house on Wednesday [today].

Minister of State for Interior Shehryar Khan Afridi would inform the party members about the investigation being carried out.

According to sources, the prime minster would question senior party members for keeping silence over media’s criticism against the government on the incident.



The premier understands that the government’s viewpoint and narrative on Sahiwal episode is not being conveyed to the people in an effective manner.

The main reason for this is the lack of response from senior party members on opposition’s critique of the government.

PM believes that the silence maintained by senior party members on any issue strengthens opposition’s stance and the same happened in the matter of Sahiwal tragedy.



Prime Minister Imran Khan maintained that the investigation on the incident would be carried out on merit and those responsible will be taken to task. But when opposition refuted government’s stance no senior member of PTI except Minister for Information Fawad Chaudhry came forward to defend the government position and present its narrative.

During the meeting, Minister for State on Interior Shehryar Khan Afridi would brief the participants about the progress made in investigation and advise the premier how to take the matter forward to the people and media.

Finance Minister Asad Umar would brief the parliamentary party about economic reforms.

The meeting would also discuss a strategy to deal with the opposition’s possible protest in the National Assembly.

The members of PTI have been directed to ensure their presence in parliament.
