NA session: PML-N seeks debate on Sahiwal tragedy

Shehbaz Sharif-led party files adjournment motion in the parliament

ISLAMABAD: The main opposition party in the National Assembly, the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), on Sunday submitted an adjournment motion seeking debate on the Sahiwal tragedy.

The motion stated that the nation is in a state of mourning over the killings of unarmed and innocent civilians, calling for an immediate debate in the house “on this topic of public importance”.

The adjournment motion was signed by Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, Ahsan Iqbal, Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, Marriyum Aurangzeb, Khawaja Asif and Rana Sanaullah.

The motion has sought attention towards an important public issue which is related to the killings of innocent civilians in Sahiwal.

According to the text of the motion, it has been stated that the details of the brutal incident came to the knowledge of the public through the media.

“On the fateful day of January 19, firing was opened on unarmed civilians sitting in a car near the Ada Qadir in Sahiwal,” it reads and adds, “The nation is in a state of mourning over this uncalled for brutal, murderous act.”

“This is an extremely urgent topic of public importance which must be debated in the house immediately. A reply must be summoned from the government over its failure to protect the basic human rights, and constitutional and legal rights of the citizens.”

According to the National Assembly rules of procedure and conduct, the issue must be brought for debate in the house immediately.
