Police and relatives suspect he was murdered by an unidentified intruder
ISLAMABAD:
A septuagenarian doctor living in the upscale neighbourhood of Sector F-10/4 has died with police and his relatives suspecting that he was murdered by an unidentified intruder.
The Shalimar police said that Sheraz Akhtar told the police that his 72-year-old brother, Dr Mohammad Saeed Iqbal, lived in an adjoining house in Sector F-10/4 with his second wife, Atia Islam.
Akhtar told the police that Islam called them and told his wife that someone had broken into their home.
At this, Akhtar said that his wife immediately called the police helpline Rescue 15.
Meanwhile, Akhtar said that they turned on all of their lights in a bid to scare away the intruder. However, they instead saw Dr Iqbal lying in his room with his hands and legs tied.
Crime rising at alarming rate in Islamabad
Akhtar added that they rushed his brother to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (Pims) for treatment, but by the time they got there, Dr Iqbal had breathed his last.
The police have registered a case of murder against an unidentified assailant.
Homicide unit solves six-month-old case
The Homicide Unit of the Islamabad Police on Friday claimed to have resolved a six-month-old blind murder case by nabbing a suspect allegedly involved.
The Khana police had on August 8, 2018, had received information that a body was lying on the roof of an under-construction house in `Nai-Abaid Pindorian’.
Officials from Khana police station and the homicide unit reached the spot and collected evidence. However, they did not have any leads to go on but suspected foul play. The Khanna police, though, registered a case (FIR #379) under section 302 of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC) and started investigations.
Operations-SSP Waqaruddin Syed constituted a special team under the supervision of Rural SP Umer Khan to trace details of the deceased and to arrest the perpetrator.
Murder or suicide: Boy, girl found shot dead
This team, which included DSP Chaudhry Abid Hussain, Homicide Unit Inspector Anees Akbar, Sub-Inspector Muneer Ahmed and others managed to identify the body as Swabi resident Siyad Ali.
They managed to trace the main accused in the case, Liaquat Khan. Police found that Liaquat had a criminal record and has spent time in jail for his involvement in murder, attempt to murder, dacoity and other crimes.
Moreover, it was found that Ali and Liaquat were friends.
During the preliminary investigations, the accused allegedly confessed that he had killed Ali over a monetary dispute.
