ISLAMABAD: Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Justice Sardar Muhammad Raza on Friday said administrative arrangements are being made for the delimitation of local government constituencies or wards in Balochistan where after election programme schedule will be announced.

In a letter to Balochistan chief minister, the CEC said that delimitation for the conduct of said elections has become a pre-requisite in the province on certain grounds including consequential scenario of census 2017.

New system for local bodies in the making, conference informed

He said that under Article 140-A, 219(d), 222(b) of the Constitution and Section-221 of Elections Act, 2017 read with Section-16(2) of Balochistan Local Government Act 2010, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) is responsible to conduct LG elections in the provinces and to carry out delimitation of local government constituencies for the purpose.

It is pertinent to mention that the tenure of local government institutions in Balochistan is going to complete on January 27.

Under section 219(4) of Elections Act 2017, the ECP is bound to conduct elections of local government within 120 days after the completion of its tenure.
