Eating too much

KARACHI: According to a recent report, humans are losing lives owing to the food they consume. Unhealthy diets have become a leading reason for loss of human life, irrespective of the fact that it is completely avoidable.

Over time, owing to the introduction of ‘easy’ and processed food — also widely known as fast food — consumption of edibles that appear to be harmful for intake has increased. The report suggests that “the way humanity produces and eats food must radically change to avoid millions of deaths and ‘catastrophic’ damage to the planet.” It has been stated that an increase in sugar consumption and red meat has been the leading causes of health problems.

It has often been noted in Pakistan that eating out at eateries that are famous for such food has become a status symbol. Hence, once you have the money to afford dining out, you indulge yourself with food that can go on to become fatal. Such a trend needs to change and people need to be advocated towards the habits of healthy eating.

The report states that currently, nearly a billion people in the world are hungry while at the same time another two billion are eating too much of the wrong foods, causing epidemics of obesity, heart disease and diabetes.

It is time that we started taking what we eat more seriously.
