Kumail Nanjiani to star in a rom-com with Issa Rae

Pakistani-American star will be working on 'The Lovebirds' with Rae

Pakistani-American star Kumail Nanjiani and Insecure actor Issa Rae have joined hands for the romantic comedy The Lovebirds.

The project will reunite Nanjiani with The Big Sick director Michael Showalter, who's on board to helm the upcoming project, reported The Hollywood Reporter.

The project goes on the floor at the end of this month.

The story revolves around a couple that is on the verge of a break-up and gets involved in a murder investigation. Tom Lassally, Olly Obst, Todd Shulman, Jordana Mollick, and Gero are producing the venture.

Nanjiani starred in and co-wrote The Big Sick with his spouse Emily V Gordon in an autobiographical comedy-drama that received an Oscar nomination for best original screenplay.

He starred as programmer Dinesh Chugtai in the five seasons of Silicon Valley.

The star will now be part of the upcoming sequel of Doctor Dolittle in which he will be the voice of an ostrich named Pumpton, reported Variety.

Actor Robert Downey Jr took to Twitter to reveal the full cast of his star-studded The Voyage of Doctor Dolittle. Along with Kumail, Rami Malek, Octavia Spencer, Craig Robinson, John Cena, Marion Cotillard, Carmen Ejogo, and Frances de la Tour will also lend their voices to the Universal film.

Rae is the co-creator, writer, exec producer, and star of HBO’s series Insecure and appeared in the drama The Hate U Give.
