A commendable job

Saqib Nisar will be remembered for doing most of what governments are expected to do

KARACHI: The remarkable tenure of Chief Justice of Pakistan Mian Saqib Nisar comes to an end on January 17. He will be remembered for doing most of what governments are expected to do, including visiting public hospitals to taking suo-motu notices on matters that would otherwise have gone unnoticed.

It is equally a moment of pride and shame for Pakistan, as someone like now the former Chief Justice served the country, yet at the same time successive governments were so incompetent that he had to take charge of the affairs.

However, as the judiciary has enough to deal with, the government should not burden it with what is its own job.

Amna Saqib
