KARACHI: Surgeons on a panel at the opening day of the 6th Minimal Invasive Surgery Conference (MIS) and multidisciplinary robotic workshop on Thursday expressed the hope that the establishment of specialist robotic centres in the country would help increase the cost effectiveness of the surgery.
Sindh Institute of Urology and Transplantation (SIUT) Director Prof Adib Rizvi commenced the workshop. The workshop, which will focus exclusively on the impact, benefits and the future of robotic procedures, is the first of its kind in the country.
Three important fields of medical science; urology, general surgery and gynecology have been selected for discussion.
Panelist Prof Shamim Khan, from King's College London, highlighted the aims and objectives of the workshop while Dr Amjad Siraj Memon, Dr Fouzia Parveen from Civil Hospital and Dr Altaf Hashmi of SIUT introduced the three specialties that they represented. They also agreed that the patient's consent to the procedure was paramount when considering robotic surgery.
