Happy birthday Sajal Aly: 3 of her characters that stayed with us

The journey from Dr Zubia to Chammi has been truly phenomenal

Sajal Aly, the doe-eyed beauty of Pakistani showbiz, has more than made her mark in the industry. In fact, she has proved her mettle across the border as well, holding her own opposite Bollywood legend Sridevi in Mom (2017). The way she immerses herself into every one of her characters is impeccable, to say the least.

The starlet mad her debut with Mehmoodabad Ki Malkain back in 2011 and has come a long way since. With one-of-a-kind projects, whole lot of talent and a devoted fan following, Sajal only seems to go from strength to strength.

The actor has delivered some unforgettable roles over the years but her recent portrayal of Chammi in the Partition-period drama Aangan has surpassed all her previous roles. As the starlet turns 25 today, we look back at some of her most memorable performances:

Sajal's portrayal of Dr Zubia in one of Pakistani television's most famous shows Yakeen Ka Safar was lauded by fans and critics alike. Apart from her remarkable performance as a broken, yet determined, young girl, the show gave us a new favourite reel-life pair. Yakeen Ka Safar was the first show Sajal and Ahad Raza Mir shared screen space together and since then, the fans have been left wanting more. The couple is again working together for Aangan.

Sajal got her Bollywood break alongside the late Sridevi - talk about lucky! Contrary to Zubia, her character in Mom was that of a teenager, warming up to her step-mother for whom she had no soft corner. Not just in Pakistan but the actor was highly-praised for her acting skills in India as well.

The 25-year-old's latest project is a multi-starrer period drama, Aangan. Sajal is working with Ahad (yet again), Sonya Hussyn, Mawra Hocane, Ahsan Khan and others. Her character Chammi is a bubbly girl head over heels in love with Jamil (Ahad). And of course, she seems to be nailing it!

Ahad had earlier expressed concerns that their pairing might get exhausting for audiences. “I’m not scared of it (the onscreen pairing) getting exhausted, but I do fear people capitalising on it,” Ahad remarked. “But here’s the thing: you might get Ahad and Sajal in a drama together but you’ll get us at a very different angle. You’re not getting the same thing. So, I think with Aangan, if people are expecting Yakeen Ka Safar, they should get ready for something else. I think it’s Sajal Aly at her finest."
