ISLAMABAD: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has made it clear that the bureau cannot arrest Pakistan Peoples Party Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari and Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah on just the desire of a minister.

The national anti-graft watchdog released an official statement after Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry reiterated his demand to arrest senior PPP leaders including Zardari, Shah and Faryal Talpur in the fake accounts case.

PM not immune from probe: NAB chief

“Law will take its owns course of action in light of the judgment of the Supreme Court of Pakistan,” reads the statement stating the bureau has not yet received certified copies of the top court’s verdict in the on-going case.

The bureau has also rejected the impression of adopting a lacklustre approach in this regard, “The anti-graft watchdog always believes in working under the purview of law and Constitution of the country. Time and care is needed to resolve complex legal issues”.

Moreover, NAB has decided to summon interviews and statements of the federal information minister from Pemra, to ascertain it does not influence the decisions.
