Phone Disconnection: Divisional engineer summoned for July 11

LAHORE:

A consumer court on Tuesday issued notice to the divisional engineer of the Bhaghbanpura telephone exchange for July 11 in a suit for Rs2,00,000.

Complainant Mushtaq Ahmed Chaudhry submitted that the telephone service at his son, Hassan Mushtaq,’s residence on Infantry Road had been suspended just two months after installation in March 2011. He said a written application had been submitted to the exchange and later a legal notice served but the officials concerned took no notice. He said the suspension was uncalled for because the bills for two months had been paid on time. The complainant requested the court to direct the respondent to pay Rs2,00,000 in damages and ‘mental torture’.

Muhammad Fiaz, an employee at the Bhaghbanpura exchange, told The Tribune he knew nothing of the story and refused to give out contact information for the respondent, Divisional Engineer Muhammad Mustafa.
