KARACHI: The Pakistan Rangers Sindh have denied reports of an alleged raid on the house of Sorath Lohar, convener of the Voice for Missing Persons of Sindh (VMPS).

In a statement issued to the media, the paramilitary force said attempts were being made to create the false impression that Rangers personnel had raided Lohar’s house and arrested her brother, Singhar Lohar.

The statement added that VMPS representatives uploaded a fake video of the alleged raid on social media platforms on January 12, while the news was also published by an English-language newspaper on January 15.

It stated the Rangers did not carry out any raid on Lohar’s residence, nor did any personnel harass her family.

As for the video circulated on social media, the Rangers said the mobile van seen in the footage was dispatched to Shumail Complex, near Mausamiyat, on January 12 to arrest a suspect named Khalid Zaman in Karachi.

While intelligence reports placed Zaman and another unidentified man at a street near Shumail Complex, the suspects managed to flee as soon as the Rangers mobile arrived in the area.

As per the Rangers’ statement, Zaman is wanted in cases of possession of illegal weapons, extortion and murder, with FIRs against him registered with Wara police in district Qambar Shahdadkot.

The statement further clarified that Rangers personnel did not enter any house near Shumail Complex on January 12.

It also asserted that the Rangers have not arrested Singhar Lohar, nor is he in their custody.

The paramilitary force has also urged the public and media to furnish any evidence of the alleged misbehaviour of Rangers personnel, particularly with Sorath Lohar and other female members of her family.
