‘Sectarian killer’: ATC orders DIGs to interrogate accused

KARACHI:

The Anti-Terrorism Courts (ATC) nominated on Tuesday two senior officers of good reputation to investigate nine high-profile sectarian murder cases against Muntazir Imam, a notorious ‘sectarian killer’.

Disapproving the conduct of nine police officers of the rank of inspectors and sub-inspectors, ATC Karachi administrative judge Justice Maqbool Baqar ordered DIGs Sultan A. Khawaja and Sardar Abdul Majeed Dasti to interrogate the accused inside Central Prison Karachi.

Imam’s judicial remand was also extended till June 24. Both the officers were told to submit their report by that date. All the nine investigation officers of the cases against Imam were also directed to hand over the case files to the new officers appointed by the court.

The accused was produced by the jail authorities on the order of the administrative judge amid strict security. Imam was accused of heading a gang of sectarian killers who targeted prominent scholars of their rival sect.
