Malik was excluded from the list of contracted players but after the PCB’s u-turn, his chances of getting among the contracted players have increased.
“We can give a central contract to Malik because he’s cleared and also part of the team now,” chairman Ijaz Butt told The Express Tribune. “We can only offer him the contract if the selection committee sends us their recommendation and approval.”
Butt added that the decision could be taken as early as next month when the PCB reviews the players’ performance.
Chairman selection committee Mohsin Khan said he would assess Malik’s performance making the recommendation.
“I’ll have a close look at Malik’s performance as he’s been out of action for a while and I’ll be more than happy to ask for his contract if he proves his worth in the Asia Cup,” said Khan before adding that past controversies relating to the all-rounder would not affect his chances.
