RAWALPINDI: After the Punjab government decided to lift the 12-year-old ban on celebrating Basant, kite flyers in the Potohar region have announced that they shall mark the annual spring festival by holding their own kite-flying event next month.

The announcement comes despite the government’s decision to retain the ban on kite-flying.

The Rawalpindi Kite Association (RKA) has stated that their event will commence on the night of February 21, while they will celebrate Basant the next day, on February 22.

In this regard, they said that kite sellers have ordered kites and threads from Peshawar in bulk.

Kite lovers have already started hoarding kites and string apart from filling the sky with kites of all shapes and colours.

In December, the Punjab government had lifted a ban on celebrating Basant.
