Young doctors to observe country-wide strike

Doctors to observe strike in protest against manhandling of colleagues by police.

QUETTA:
The Young Doctors Association has announced to observe a country-wide strike from Wednesday against manhandling of doctors in Quetta and detention of several association members.

Three doctors sustained injuries when police used tear gas and fired aerial shots at protesting doctors on Tuesday.

Police used tear gas and fired shots in the air to prevent 200 of Balochistan's young doctors from staging a sit-in protest in front of Chief Minister's Secretariat in Quetta. The doctors were marching from the Civil Hospital .

Using road blocks, the police was able to stop the protesting doctors near the Officer's Club in Quetta.

When the doctors tried to break the blockade, the police shelled the protesters with tear gas and fired aerial shots.

In the ensuing clash, three doctors received gun shot wounds and five others were injured due to shelling. The injured doctors have been shifted to the hospital for treatment.

The young doctors have been on strike for the past two months and are demanding for a raise in their salaries. Due to the strike, they are no longer performing emergency services in hospitals.

The doctors have lost support of the people as they are not even attending the patients in emergency department.
