Need for blood bank

Letter January 12, 2019
More often than not, availability of blood banks is not considered

KECH: Every citizen living in a country is blessed with some fundamental rights and more often than not, among these we often do not consider the availability of a blood bank a right that should be given to everyone. There are many patients who require timely transfusion of blood. However, many are deprived of this as the areas they live in do not have blood banks.

The city of Turbat in Balochistan is one of the highly populated cities but it lacks a blood bank. Patients have to travel long distances to get a blood transfusion done. This not only takes time and money but could also prove fatal for those whose health conditions are too critical for travelling such distances.

In view of this, the provincial government should establish a blood bank in the city at the earliest. As a stopgap arrangement a mobile blood bank can also be established.
