Speaking at a cheque distribution ceremony among victims of Ferozepur Housing Society Scheme at NAB Headquarters, Justice (retd) Javed Iqbal noted if Opposition leader in National Assembly could appear before the anti-graft watchdog then the premier could also be held accountable.
Three days ago, Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry had termed NAB’s pursuing of the helicopter case against Prime Minister Imran Khan as an ‘insult’.
The federal minister had questioned how a case could be initiated against the prime minister for the use of helicopter that was given to him by the Khyber Pakhtunkwa government for the inauguration of projects in the province.
NAB chairman reiterated that the inquiry against Prime Minister proved the supremacy of law in the country. He remarked that the probe was not an insult but had raised premier’s honour and stature. The anti-graft body chief pointed out that it was the first step towards PM’s ‘Naya Pakistan’ vision as he himself wanted an end to corruption in the country.
NAB chairman stressed the first and foremost priority of NAB was to take the mega corruption cases to their logical end. He stressed that all politicians, whether from opposition or treasury, were equal before the eyes of law.
Justice (retd) Iqbal said he had no enmity against anyone nor he wanted to avenge anyone in personal capacity.
He maintained that NAB would conduct every inquiry according to the law and not succumb to any pressure. He ruled out the possibility of NAB becoming a party to any NRO.
The prime minister is accused of illegally using helicopters of the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa government, which allegedly caused losses to the national exchequer.
Commenting on the plea bargain of Ferozepur Housing Society Scheme, Justice (Retd) Iqbal said the deal amounted to two billion and two hundred and twenty million rupees and was the biggest in the history of NAB.
NAB Chairman stated that any housing society that looted public money would be taken to task.
NAB chairman distributed cheques of 590 million rupees among 2100 victims of Ferozepur Housing Society Scheme.
