ISLAMABAD  : Chief Justice of Pakistan Mian Saqib Nisar on Wednesday warned the power division secretary that strict action will be taken against corruption, Express News reported.

A three-member Supreme Court (SC) bench headed by the chief justice presided over the hearing. Justice Nisar, while hearing the matter over non-provision of electricity, rebuked the energy division as to why electricity provision is at a halt despite independent power producers (IPPs) receiving complete payment from the government.

According to an agreement between the government and the IPPs, payments were duly made even if electricity was not being produced, the power division secretary told the bench.

Justice Ijazul Hasan, on the occasion, maintained that 10 IPPs had received an additional Rs159 million each. "Why was electricity not being produced even though payments had been made," the chief justice commented.
