ISLAMABAD:
The election committee of the Islamabad Bar Association (IBA) has ousted presidential candidate Saeed Khursheed from this week’s polls after he allegedly failed to fulfil legal requirements.
Khursheed subsequently approached Islamabad Bar and Pakistan Bar Council seeking a stay on the committee’s order but it was not accepted. He is now considering moving the Islamabad High Court over the matter.
Cases registered: Lawyers turn facilitation centre into chambers
Naveed Malik, the chairman of the election committee, explained that Khurseed did not fulfil the criteria to run for IBA presidency.
On the other hand, the election committee has deemed that Khursheed’s competitor Chaudhry Khanzada – accused of holding a fake degree —holds a real one. Should Khanzada be disqualified, Khursheed would be in a strong position to win the elections.
