Secretary Habibullah says most accidents occur during night time on highways due to vehicles’ searchlights

QUETTA: Regional Transport Authority (RTA) Secretary Habibullah Khan on Tuesday said strict measures were being taken to ensure implementation of traffic rules in order to reduce the number of accidents on National Highway in Quetta.

According to a statement, the RTA secretary said on special directives of Quetta Commissioner Muhammad Hashim Ghilzai a campaign was launched against searchlights and other vehicles involved in traffic violation.

He said searchlights of more than 57 vehicles were taken off by the traffic police and RTA personnel at Jacobabad-Quetta National Highway today (Tuesday) and seven vehicles were fined over violation of traffic rules, adding that the same team had taken off 577 searchlights from vehicles and had fined 40 vehicles over traffic violation a few days ago at Balily Check Post and Mian Ghundi area of Quetta.

He said most of the accidents occurred on the National Highway during night time due to searchlights due to which action would continue against such vehicles in order to decrease road mishaps on highways to save precious public during travelling.

The RTA official said a special campaign would be launched with other government departments to make sure that the public follows traffic rules, adding that strict action would be taken against overloaded vehicles and speeding public transport vehicles so that the number of accidents could be decreased.
