QUETTA: Opposition Leader in the Balochistan Assembly Malik Sikandar Advocate and Additional Health Secretary Wali Muhammad Barrech have urged the government to fulfil the demands of the paramedic staff, saying it is their right to be granted allowances and provided security.

Their demands include provision of health insurance and house rent, and security in the wake of the recent kidnapping of a doctor.

“The paramedic staff is the backbone of the health sector and remains on the frontline during any untoward incident,” said the opposition leader and the additional secretary while addressing an oath-taking ceremony of the Pakistan Paramedical Staff Association on Monday.

“For 70 years, injustice and exploitation of public rights in the country has created an atmosphere of distrust in the state,” said Sikandar, urging the government to implement the constitutional rights of citizens.

He assured the paramedic staff that he would stand with them for their genuine demands.

Addressing the ceremony, the additional health secretary lauded the role of the paramedic staff in the health sector.

“Doctors have responsibilities to just check patients, but the other relevant treatment, including tests, are conducted by the paramedic staff,” said Barrech.

During the oath-taking ceremony, the PPSA representatives demanded of the provincial health department to fulfil its promises of granting allowances to them.
