LAHORE: The business community has a key role in the economy and economic challenges will be tackled with their cooperation, remarked National Assembly Deputy Speaker Qasim Khan Suri.

Speaking at the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI), Suri said the burden of debt had reached Rs30 trillion while a huge amount was required for debt servicing. Previous governments, which had been in power from 2008 to 2018, borrowed Rs24 trillion but the situation in all sectors of the economy remained discouraging, he said.

IMF sees more potential for revenue collection

The deputy speaker pointed out that after holding the reins, Prime Minister Imran Khan sought help from Saudi Arabia, China, Turkey and Abu Dhabi to overcome the economic crisis, instead of taking loan from the International Monetary Fund (IMF). “If the IMF bailout is unavoidable, no anti-country condition will be accepted,” he emphasised.
