ISLAMABAD:
Federal Minister for Water Resources Faisal Vawda on Monday apologised to the court on behalf of the government after Chief Justice of Pakistan Mian Saqib Nisar expressed displeasure over not being informed about rescheduling of Mohmand Dam's groundbreaking ceremony.

A three-member bench led by the CJP heard a case regarding the construction of the Nai Gaj Dam.

Expressing displeasure, Justice Nisar asked Vawda why he was not informed before the change of date.

“You did not even bother to inform me about changing the date of the groundbreaking ceremony," he said.

Upon this, Vawda appologised to the court on behalf of the government.

CJP hinted that he might not even attend the groundbreaking ceremony, to which Vawda responded that the chief justice must attend the ceremony.

Mohmand dam’s groundbreaking on January 13

Addressing a news conference last week, Vawda had said the ground breaking ceremony of Mohmand dam was earlier scheduled for the first week of January but it will now take place in the second week.

During today's proceeding, Justice Nisar directed the concerned ministers to present the final plan on the issue by January 15 as they will not get further extension after that. “Let us know if they are not interested so we can ourselves issue direction in this regards … Rs10 billion has already been spent on the project, people might get some water and electricity,” he remarked.

The CJP also directed Vawda to ensure that the Executive Committee of National Economic Council’s (ECNEC) meeting takes place before the next hearing. Otherwise, the ECNEC members will be summoned in the following hearing on short notice, he added.

“Faisal Vawda is a fresh blood and a lot of good is expected from him,” Justice Nisar remarked while adjourning the hearing till Friday.
