Minority Rights: ‘Hinduism should be an option in census’

HYDERABAD: Hinduism should be listed as an option under the question of religion in the census, demanded the Scheduled Castes Rights Movement of Pakistan on Monday. They said Hinduism should replace the option of ‘scheduled castes’ in the census form. The movement’s Ramesh Lal also pointed out that according to the Scheduled Castes Act, 1957, there was a quota of six per cent for Hindus. However, it was never implemented. Laws should also be enacted for the registration of marriages of scheduled caste Hindus, he added.
