Abidi was killed in an armed attack by unidentified men outside his house in Defence Housing Authority on the night of December 25. Investigations had begun right after the incident and an investigation team was formed, headed by South SSP Pir Muhammad Shah.

Dharejo, also a member of the investigation team, said that they have prepared a chart of Abidi's activities in the last four months and leaders of political parties could be summoned. Dharejo added that Abidi's murder seemed to be related with his political activities but nothing could be said until the investigation was completed.
Media personnel were present outside the office where Khan was being interrogated. While Khan avoided giving a comment, Dharejo told the media that Khan was summoned by police officials as his name was in the list of party leaders to be questioned.
He said that police has compiled a list of people comprising leaders from Pak Sarzameen Party (PSP) and MQM. In addition to this, people who met Abidi or were in contact with him recently before his death could also be summoned.

In response to a question, Dharejo said that a chart was prepared and all people in contact with Abidi will be summoned for questioning. Investigations are being carried out technically on the basis of other evidences, he said. "Abidi's murder is related to his political activities according to the findings up till now. He had resigned from his party and the reasons why he resigned are yet to be known. Dharejo further informed that the police was conducting investigations from every angle and the case would be solved soon. "No one is above the law".
Earlier this week, Farooq Sattar had also been summoned for interrogation while permission was also being acquired to summon the head of Pak Sarzameen Party Mustafa Kamal and other political leaders.
