PESHAWAR: University of Peshawar ranks fifth in the country according to URAP ratings. The other four include from the Quaid-i-Azam University (QAU), Punjab University (PU), University of Agriculture Faisalabad (UAF) and National University of Science and Technology (NUST).

An international ranking agency University Ranking by Academic Performance (URAP) has ranked University of Peshawar (UoP) fifth top most university in research productivity, collaboration and citation among 21 universities of Pakistan for the year 2018.

Internationally, UoP has been placed at 1,363 number by URAP which is a non-profit organisation established at the Informatics Institute of Middle East Technical University (METU) Ankara in 2009. URAP team members are METU researchers who voluntarily participate in URAP Research Lab as public service. The main objective of URAP is to develop a ranking system for the world universities based on academic performance indicators that reflect the quality and the quantity of their scholarly publications.

The ranking agency is working since 2010 and has included 2,500 higher education institutions in the current year across the globe of which UoP came 1,363.

Analysing Pakistan, URAP assigned UoP a category of B+ while Quaid-i-Azam University (QAU) got B++ with international ranking of 547.

The URAP ranking purely counts on the research publications, collaborations and citations while other factors like gender ratios, foreign students, grants, disciplines diversity have not been considered as being done by other agencies.

UoP Registrar Dr Zahid Gul has evinced satisfaction over the ranking and said that the fundamental strength of universities is faculty research output and since UoP is pre-dominantly a social science university it is a remarkable milestone and flag-post. He congratulated UoP Quality Enhancement Director Dr Ashad Halimi for submitting data in time and hard work from the team.
