‘Selective’ accountability

HYDERABAD: A tug of war has started between the PTI-led government and its political rivals. Asif Ali Zardari and his men are in trouble. Zardari and his party men are now being tried in the ‘fake accounts’ case. After the PML-N, the noose has also tightened around the PPP, and to make matters worse, the PTI leadership is trying to topple the Sindh government. As many as 172 names have been put on the ECL including those of Faryal Talpur, Asif Ali Zardari and Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah — accused of being beneficiaries and facilitators in the case.

It is frustrating to witness selective accountability rampant across the government departments. Seems like the PTI government is endeavouring to create a rift in the governance structure of the country by targeting its opponents. Selective accountability and discriminatory accountability is undemocratic and unjust. The party should treat its own members and members of its allied parties in the same manner as the ruling parties have a history of corruption and misuse of powers.
