People's Choice: 'Saaqi-e-Bawafa' wins Express Tribune's Song of the Year award

Approximately 40,000 votes were received out of which Saakin bagged a whopping 20,280 votes

KARACHI: 2018 was a year of experimental music. From Strings making a comeback to their solo career and EDM acts such as Abdullah Siddiqui surfacing, the year saw more highs than lows for original music.

Five critics presented their list of top 20 songs of 2018 that opened  to public voting on December 5. And the results are finally out!

A total of 39,740 votes were received out of which Saakin's Saaqi-e-Bawafa bagged a whopping 20,280 votes, making it the 'People's Choice Song of the Year.' Saakin retained the top spot from the Critic's Choice list but the runner up, Xarb, moved from 8th place to second for Kashmakash.

Aarish the Band took a huge leap from number 16 to number three with Aasman.  Mehdi Maloof with Gandi Si Building went down two spots to number four. Bayaan's Din Dhalay jumped from the 11th spot to number five.

Express Tribune Music Award

With this year's top songs list The Express Tribune has introduced the 'Tribune Song of the Year Award.' Every year the winners of the Critic's choice 'Song of the Year' and 'People's choice Song of the Year' will be awarded separately. The awards will be accompanied by a special gift hamper and a lot of other interesting stuff that shall be announced soon. This award is a short step towards facilitating the music industry and bringing newer, less celebrated acts to the forefront.
