Veteran Bollywood actor-director-writer-comedian and a Quran scholar, Kader Khan has passed away today after a prolonged illness. He breathed his last at a hospital in Toronto, Canada, a family member said, reported Hindustan Times.

The 81-year-old, is survived by his wife Hajra, son Sarfaraz, daughter-in-law, and grandchildren. According to a close relative Ahmed, the Chhote Sarkar passed away around 4am (IST). He shared that the last rites will be held in a Toronto cemetery.

Khan was reportedly suffering from Progressive Supranuclear Palsy, a degenerative disease that causes loss of balance, difficulty in walking and dementia.

Last week saw fellow veteran Amitabh Bachchan pray for his speedy recovery. "Kader Khan... actor writer of immense talent... lies ill in Hospital... Prayer and duas for his well being and recovery... Saw him perform on stage, welcomed him and his prolific writing for my films. Great company, a libran and many not know, taught Mathematics," the Thugs of Hindostan actor wrote on Twitter.



Khan, was born in Kabul back in 1937. He made his debut with 1973 Daag, alongside Rajesh Khanna. After that film, Khan went on to work in over 300 films, spanning several decades. But he was a man of many talents. Apart from acting, he had written dialogues for over 250 movies.
