Security measures: Pindi to deploy 4,000 cops on new year’s eve

One-wheeling banned in the city as traffic plan issued

RAWALPINDI: To maintain security on new year’s eve, the Rawalpindi police has decided to deploy as many as 4,000 armed policemen across the city while one-wheeling and other stunts have also been banned in the city for the night.

This was announced by a police spokesperson on Sunday.

The official said that apart from guarding key installations and deployment in the markets, police officers will also be deployed around churches and public places.

Armed officers in uniform and in plain clothes will be performing their duties, he said. The police have also been directed to take stern action against suspects, apart from conducting effective checking of hotels.

All the Deputy Superintendents Police (DSP) and Station House Officers (SHO) have been directed to ensure effective patrolling within their respective areas.

No one will be allowed to carry weapons on new year’s night, with officials warning that stern action will be taken against violators. Moreover, playing loud music would also be banned on the occasion.

Recently, the Rawalpindi police had deployed some 4,000 officers to at different churches and public places throughout the district on December 25 to ensure security on Christmas.

Meanwhile, the Rawalpindi City Traffic Police (CTP) has devised a plan to stop youngsters from performing dangerous stunts their motorbikes, particularly riding it on its rear wheel, popularly known as one-wheeling, on new year’s eve.

In this regard, a special squad has been formed to arrest the lawbreakers and impounding their vehicles.

Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Muhammad Bin Ashraf said that strict orders have been issued to arrest those involved in the activity.

Meanwhile, one wheeling goes on unnoticed on various roads of the city, where teenagers perform dangerous stunts.

One-wheelers can be seen performing dangerous antics near Ayub Park, Peshawar Road, Saddar, Murree Road and other areas and usually succeed in dodging the police deployed on various roads.

Despite efforts of the police to curb the activity, the deadly game continues unabatedly.
