SC seeks schedule for construction of Nai Gaj dam

Justice Nisar warns against delay in matters related to health care

LAHORE: The Supreme Court (SC) on Friday sought a schedule for the construction of Nai Gaj dam, Express News reported.

During the hearing, the Chief Justice Saqib Nisar remarked that a time frame should be provided for the construction of the reservoir and also said that "matters pertaining to health care should not be subjected to delay".

Minister for Water Resources Faisal Vawda and Minister for Planning and Development Khusro Bakhtiar appeared at the apex court's Lahore registry for the hearing.

The two ministers apprised the court that addressing the water crisis is a top priority and authorities concerned are communicating with the finance minister to chalk out a plan.

"Diamer-Bhasha and Mohmand dams are also of focal importance," the ministers told the court.

In an earlier hearing on December 6, Justice Nisar remarked that if the dam was not built within the time frame then the parties concerned with the construction would be held responsible.
