K-P cabinet likely to expand after polls in tribal districts

CM tells IG Mehsud to give daily report on progress in catching the killers of three-year-old girl in Abbottabad

PESHAWAR: Chief Minister Mahmood Khan has said that provincial cabinet will be expanded after general election in the newly merged districts of the province and consultation of Prime Minister Imran Khan.

Currently, the provincial cabinet has 13 ministers, two advisers to CM and two special assistants to the CM according to K-P government’s website.

The CM explained that to accommodate the members from the merged districts in the provincial cabinet, he has decided to expand the cabinet after the elections in erstwhile Fata.

Mehmood was talking to the media after visiting Halal Food and Safety Authority on Thursday.

To a question, the chief minister denied the reports that CNIC cards of the parents who refused administering oral polio drops to their kids will be blocked.

The chief minister said that officials of Halal Food and Safety Authority would take impartial actions in divisional level against the sale of substandard chips and already slaughtered chickens in the market.

He also assured to address the problems of cultivating vegetables in dirty water. To a question about traders’ problems regarding mutation of lands, the CM said this issue would be resolved on priority basis.

Mahmood assured Peshawar trading community that the provincial government and the Halal Food and Safety Authority would jointly resolve the genuine problems of the traders.

He also announced to hold a separate meeting with the trading community of Peshawar for addressing their problems.

Child murder

Chief Minister Mahmood taking notice of the a three-year-old girl’s gruesome murder on Wednesday in Kayla Village of Havelian tehsil directed the provincial Spokesperson Ajmal Wazir to coordinate with IG Salahuddin Mehsud on the issue and asked to submit a detail report to the CM office.

Mahmood telephoned IG Mehsud and discussed early arrest of the accused involved in the brutal killing of a child. He said the accused would be given exemplary punishment.

Meanwhile, IG Mehsud has sought immediate report from Regional Police Officer (RPO) Hazara region Muhammad Alam Khan Shinwari into the case and prompt action against the culprits. He also instructed the Hazara region police chief to submit daily report in the instant case.

In a statement the provincial spokesperson said that the provincial government will make an example of those involved in the inhuman act in Havelian and justice would be served without delay.

“I am in regular contact with the family and police and other relevant authority and soon the culprits would be brought to justice” Wazir said.

In yet another harrowing incident of rising instances of child abuse, a three-year-old girl was found raped and killed on Wednesday, a day after being abducted in a village of Abbottabad’s Havelian tehsil.

An FIR of the child’s disappearance was lodged on her family’s complaint at Havelian police station. According to the FIR, the child had gone missing from her home at 2:30pm on Tuesday.

A search operation was launched under the supervision of Havelian DSP Ejaz Ahmed. The victim’s body was found from a secluded place away from her village, Kiyala, at 9am on Wednesday.

On hearing the news, DPO Abbottabad Abbas Majeed Marwat and DSP Sonia Shamroz reached Havelian and oversee the post mortem process.

According to initial findings, the child was sexually assaulted and left in critical condition to die in extreme cold weather.

The victim was later laid to rest amid tears and sobs. Police launched a search operation in the area to arrest the culprits.
